Men of Central is a group of African American Men from the central community of Ward #5 Cleveland, Ohio. The organization was formed because of the lack of participation of adult male involvement with the youth of the community. As men we recognized the importance of positive male role models in the lives of youth, and the need to participate in there lives spiritually, socially, educationally, and recreational. Our goal is to bridge the gap of understanding, misunderstanding, support, and friendship with the youth, and to assist them in becoming productive citizens of the community.
Our organization is located inside Lonnie Burten Recreation Center which provides a number of recreational activities for youth of all ages. In conjunction with the center we will work with youth to participate in various activities such as: field trips, arts, chess, and youth clubs. We will invite various guest speakers from, gang prevention, educational opportunities, business, sports, entertainment, to positively influence youth.
Mission of the organization is to provide mentoring to youth ages 8 -14 years of age in Ward # 5 in the central community of Cleveland, Ohio. We will focus on assisting youth with after school tutoring, social development, gang prevention, recreational participation (basketball, football, swimming, baseball) and the arts
There are a number of activities that we are involved in with the community, each year. We sponsor a Father's Day celebration for fathers day, back to school rally for youth of the community where we provide school supplies, entertainment, and food.
We have a number of members who go out into the community and speak on issues from drug prevention, education, gang prevention, and the importance of family.
As a community organization we work closely with various community agencies such as: Bell, Burten, Carr, Development Center, Neighborhood Connection, and the City of Cleveland.
